Bearing its razor sharp teeth the curious predator managed to poke its head through what was supposedly a shark proof cage.
Filmed in Guadalupe, Mexico, the footage shows a team of divers awaiting the arrival of sharks after luring the animals to them with the use of tuna heads hanging from ropes.
The team of experienced divers however could not have bargained for such a close encounter with one of the animal kingdom’s most efficient killing machines.
San Francisco native, Skyler Thomas, is the founder of White Shark Video a group of divers with a serious love for sharks.
He said: ”We attracted several sharks around the boat and around the cages so that we could film them. This shark kept getting closer and closer until its comfort level rose and its curiosity level rose.”
In the footage the shark can be seen tentatively coming closer towards the team.
Skyler said: “The shark finally decided it wanted to take a closer look so it came up over the top of the cage where we happened to have been standing and got a little bit too close for comfort for the guy that was at the front.”
The experience was shocking for Skyler due to the sharks odd behaviour as it did not appear to show any aggression as it popped its head over the top of the cage.
The diver said: “It’s pretty special behaviour - at least for me. I haven’t seen that, it’s fairly unusual but we still don’t think it was an act of aggression. We think it wanted to get more information and got a little closer - definitely closer than the diver was comfortable with.”
Skyler’s love affair with sharks started after encountering the majestic beasts during the start of his scuba diving career.
He said: “I became interested in sharks the first time I dove with them. I always wanted to be a scuba diver and when I saw sharks under the water i was hooked for life.”
